Felix Manalo: Rapist of His Members and His Ministers’ Wives

In 1954, the newspaper The Bombshell published a three-part story concerning Felix Manalo, founder of the Iglesia Ni Cristo. The first part was published on October 21 with front page headline “IGLESIA NI CRISTO ‘HEAD’ ANGEL OR SEX MANIAC?” The article includes a letter of confession from a certain Rosita Trillanes who, according to her, was raped several times by Felix Manalo. Here is the inside story. (Press Ctrl + to enlarge image.)

“MANALO, FELIX ISAGUN

“Superior Minister of the “Iglesia Ni cristo,” or Church of Christ. Born in Barrio Calsada, Tagig, Rizal, on May 10, 1886, he is the first of the two sons of Mariano Isagun and Bonifacia Manalo. At the age of seven, he entered a barrio school then conducted by a certain Maestrong Cario, wherein he obtained his primary education.

“When the revolution came in 1896, he was unable to continue his studies, so he lived with his parents to help them sometimes by fishing but most of the time by plowing their own field. When he grew older he studied photography and later a hatter’s trade and established a hat store. But this kind of living did not satisfy him for he aspired to lead a religious life.

“To realize his aspiration he joined the Methodist Episcopal Church in 1904, and attended the classes given by that institution, but not being satisfied with the teachings of that church, he transferred to the Ellinwood Presbyterian school. He was likewise so dissatisfied with the teachings of the Presbyterian Church that he decided and joined the Christian Mission, where later he was made an evangelist. As he was also dissatisfied with the teachings and doctrines of this church, he resigned his position and joined the Seventh day Adventist, popularly known as “Sabathist.” He continued his studies in the Scriptures, while in his spare time he canvassed books and wrote for the publications of the Philippine Publishing House, the organ of the Seventh Day Adventist. Then he was made a minister, but due to his constant and profound study of the Bible, he began to entertain many doubts in the doctrines and teachings of the Adventists, so that he finally decided to preach the Gospel as it was revealed to him. This was the beginning of the establishment in the Philippines of the “Iglesia Ni Cristo.” (ENCYCLOPEDIA OF THE PHILIPPINES, Vol. IX, Versonco).

“But according to the same source, Felix Manalo Isagun is not the actual founder of the “Iglesia Ni Cristo” as claimed although the propagation started on or about November 1913. Thinking that it might be his success in pursuing his task by preaching the Scriptures in his own version, the said Church of Christ was registered under his name at the Bureau of Commerce and Industry, July 27, 1914. From then on, after many years of its survival as an organization the Philippines Free Press, dated April 23, 1950, made all estimation of more or less two million members. It was the most shocking news perhaps to other religious organizations ever made publicly. Since it scattered like wildfire that engulfed the four corners of the Philippines, Roxas, Avelino and Quirino were prompted to see the founder of “Iglesia Ni cristo,” and perhaps President Magsaysay too, for some political reasons. Analyzing its members whether such number is true, there are only 86, 125 members as of 1953, as far as the Bureau of Census and Statistics is concerned and not two million as claimed.

“Mr. Manalo, perhaps, is not fully satisfied with his wife and six children. In the early twenties he started already victimizing several women. To mention the few which met a strange, most bitter and painful experience lives are Rosita, whom he can not deny that this woman is one of those that met her doom during that time; Teresa Teodoro, another victim of the so-called “Angel”; Basilla Santos, if he can recall is also one among those that suffered under his hypnotistic system. Wives of several ministers that can not talk for fear that they might be expelled as “Diakonesas” might be known by their husbands. Our informant disclosed that the following are more or less under his sex domination: Felicidad, Rosa, Virginia, Bining, Mrs. Santos, Toddy, Atang, Paz, Pilar and several weeping souls that perhaps twice as much as those above-mentioned are, in one way or another, seeking revenge against Felix Manalo.

“To support our allegation, we want to prove to the reading public the following:

“Letter of Rosita to Her Brothers

“Brothers: In my belief that I will find protection I agreed that I be brought to [the] Central Office by Brother Jacinto Torres. When I was already there I experienced the most bitter and painful in [t]he life of [a] maiden like when Manalo, whom I considered as a father, abused me. At first he courted me but when I refused to accede to his desires he struck and beat me which rendered me unconscious. And when I was already unconscious, he raped me. There I suffered much because of the ill-treatment, beating and [threatening] that I received whenever I protested against his lewd designs.

“I also witnessed many who have been raped by Felix Manalo: some are maidens; others are the wives of members and ministers. Manalo himself told me about the others whom he molested when he was persuading me to accede to his desires. He told me about some thirty women he abused. I could not reveal their names to protect their dignity, but they frequently come to the Office. In my presence, he raped a maiden who later became pregnant and that happened when she went to the central office in that only instance which concerns Manalo. … Could your good sense accept these anomalies…? It is up to you to decide.”

*******

On my next post, we will discover more of Felix Manalo’s activities when he is out of his members’ sight. These are contained in Rosita’s letter, in the original Tagalog, which were removed by the editor of The Bombshell for this issue.

Of course this is true. Did you not read the article? Look at those facts – they’re screaming at you!

“Most respected” and “highly organized” eh?

If those things are indeed true, then it’s really not that big of a deal. Those are two qualities even the most vicious of mobs possess.

Of course, this cult Iglesia Ni Most Revered Felix Manalo will be defended by its loyal members.

Are you not wiling to seek and find the truth? You, members of INC, are you covering the evil acts of Mr. Felix Maniac Manalo?

    Let the truth prevail!

do you have any evidence….your just jealous because Iglesia Ni Cristo now is already successful..just search for your salvation and don’t dare to make stories that are not true again!

    Rigin Amay,

I do know what he’s doing to your soul. He’s leading you straight down to hell!

Jealous? Jealous of INC’s success? Ha? What success are you talking about? Your “preachers”, despite being TRILLIONAIRES, can’t even PREACH on national television, you call that success? They can’t even put up orphanages or transient homes or even a free college for the less fortunate, and you call that success? Iglesia ni Manalo’s Pasugo is being sold to the members when in fact the funds for that publication comes from the members’ pockets, and you call that success? Your chapels are being constructed through the members’ contributions (LAGAK SA KAPILYA), and yet even after the chapel has been built, the members still contribute for it’s construction! AND YOU CALL THAT SUCCESS?

What success are you talking about?

Why can’t your TRILLIONAIRE preachers provide free bus rides, or free MRT ride for senior citizens, or daily free medical check-ups and legal consultations? Why can’t they show their faces on television and at least, for a change, PREACH! Should I be jealous of your sex maniac leader Felix Manalo for raping some 30 WOMEN? What a success, isn’t it?

Eraño and Eduardo Manalo are, indeed, very successful — IN SPENDING ALL YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS ON THEIR VICES AND LUXURIOUS LIVES! So don’t worry, I won’t dare make stories that aren’t true, that’s why I’m exposing your leaders, because these are all facts!

you will suffer the curse of God

  10. July 8, 2009 at 7:21 am

    Rigin Amay,

Even if you want to pay for Pasugo on your own will and with all your heart, if your ministers strictly adhere to what the Bible teaches, they will not let you pay for it. Pasugo contains words and verses lifted directly from the Bible, which are prohibited for servants of God to sell. Proverbs 23:23 says:

Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.

God prohibits His servants to sell His words, thus Apostle Paul said in 2 Corinthians 2:17:

For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ.

In another version of the Bible it says:

For we are not like the great number who make use of the word of God for profit: but our words are true, as from God, being said as before God in Christ.

Ministers of the Iglesia ni Manalo uses the word of God for PROFIT, taking advantage of their members who are ignorant of God’s will and prohibitions.

I can’t explain it, but I know within myself about it.. but my advice to you is better to know first your religion and doctrines if it is really written in the bible…

  12. July 12, 2009 at 9:04 am

    Rigin Amay,

I understand why you can’t explain it. The doctrines of Manalo are erroneous and will not stand under the light of the doctrines of the Lord Jesus Christ.

  13. July 13, 2009 at 10:42 am

    Zonelyn Abad,

For the second time you expressed that you want me to suffer the curse of God. I am exposing the crimes of your leaders so that your eyes may be opened, and yet you are cursing me.

It seems you are well trained in cursing. You are really an INC member.

Response to Zonelyn Abad and Riging Amay,

Try asking a your overseer or your minister about this topic and see their response or even to your parents and members alike.

Granting the name of the church is mentioned in the bible, it does not follow that it teaches the right gospel. The success of a church (if you want to call it success) is not measured in its growth but on how the brethren follow the teachings of Jesus Christ.

I believe the material success of the INC is from the donations they receive from you (3 different contributions) and how strict they are in counting the money so no officer or minister can pocket some change. Of course the administration only knows how much they got (the members are not shown the financial reports of the entire church). The more chapels they build, the more money the receive, just like banks, stores or branches.

    Blind faith… so sad.

I understand that everyone’s entitled to their own opinion. But it is not right for anyone to accuse people of something they never did. For you to accuse that our preachers are “trillionaires”, shame on you. Ministers of the Iglesia ni Cristo does not spend the offerings members give for their own “luxuries and vices”, as you were saying.

Up to the last centavo, we document everything received and spent. It is just sad and unfortunate, that IGNORANT people like you tell these lies, with no proofs, not just to hurt INC members, but also taint our image in the society. And regarding your post here, to ruin a person, who passed decades ago, are you serious? Why don’t you add more effort, and bring this to the Supreme Court in order to judge Bro. Felix Manalo? There are people, being charged by crimes, they never did. Including Jesus.. I hope I didn’t offend you as I refer to JESUS CHRIST as HUMAN.

If you can’t harm the doctrines, just ruin somenone’s credibility???

well, it is not taught in our religion how to curse, ms. jordan,…..why?why are you criticizing our church?…you are so pitiful,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

  17. July 28, 2009 at 11:35 pm

    Anna,

So you didn’t know that your preachers are already TRILLIONAIRES? I wonder how many of the members of the Iglesia ni Manalo are not aware of this fact. It’s high time for you to know the truth, unless you want to stay being fooled by your leaders, the owners of the Iglesia ni Cristo, because INC is a corporation sole.

Here’s the video of Lydia Manuyag, former national treasurer of INC in 22 regions. She was the one who said that Eraño Manalo is a TRILLIONAIRE.

Lydia Manuyag was still an active INC member at the time this video was recorded. This was in 2003 during the live airing of Ang Dating Daan program at SBN 21. Right after Lydia’s declaration that Eraño Manalo is a TRILLIONAIRE, she and her husband Mar Manuyag were showered with bullets in their former home in Christianville, April of 2003. Mar was hit with 4 bullets but survived to tell the story. He is the person lying in the hospital in the video.

Now, about Felix Manalo, don’t get the wrong idea about why I am exposing him. Felix Manalo may already be dead, but his erroneous doctrines are still alive. By exposing his crimes, people like you will have the chance to think about the church you are affiliated with. If you are willing to stay in a church who’s leader is a rapist, that’s up to you. I’ve done my part. But don’t tell me that I am ruining anybody’s credibility. Felix Manalo ruined his own person and those members whom he raped. I’m just exposing what he did.

About the Lord Jesus Christ, the Bible says He is the Only Begotten Son of God, and He is a God. He is the Word of God.

    John 1:1-3,14 -

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

The verses say, THE WORD WAS GOD.

    to anna,

Jesus… is HUMAN? Now that’s what I call UNBIBLICAL! Church of Christ… in the bible? You mean “churches of christ” (romans 16:16). CHURCHES I say, churchES.
